FAQ
How long can Mawok be used?
From birth until the baby begins turning over on its belly in Mawok. The usage time is thus individual, but usually within the first 6 months when sleep is most critical.
What is the difference between Mawok and a traditional cradle?
The main difference between Mawok and a cradle (or a bassinet with a fixed base) is the way the baby lies. Inside the mother's womb the baby is used to a close and enfolding environment with a lot of movement. Once the baby is born, flat and static surfaces like beds are completely unknown to the baby and do not support the baby's development. The strength of Mawok is thus that it is similar to life in the womb. Suspension creates a rocking that your baby recognizes and loves. The soft carrycot is a safe environment for a baby who seeks proximity and movement.
Why do babies sleep so well in Mawok?
Many people associate the toddler period with watchful nights with a baby in their arms walking back and forth to get the baby to sleep. The embrace of a parent's arms, cradling back and forth is an obvious place that provides warmth, security and movement to the baby. This cradling is also a way to recreate the environment of the womb, just like Mawok does.
The difference between the embrace of a parent's arms and Mawok is when the baby falls asleep. If you carry your baby, you must manage the feat to move the child from the warm embrace to a cooler and more static bed. The result is not infrequently that the baby wakes up and the whole procedure must be repeated all over again. When the baby falls asleep in Mawok, there is no need to move it.
Why Mawok rocks vertically?
The vertical rocking is both comforting and soothing. Mawok resembles life in the womb with its vertical rocking and provided warmth, closeness and movement. The move from the womb to the outside world becomes smooth. The vertical rocking also soothes concerned babies who are unable to come to rest. For babies with short rest periods, one can extend the sleep session.
How is the child affected by being rocked up and down?
Vertical rocking is good for the child's development as the sense of balance (vestibularis) is trained at an early age. Read more about the positive effects of vertical rocking here.
